Agenda

Asynchronous Activities on Blackboard Due Prior to Class Meeting on 1/21
Peer Rotation A
Your post is due 1/17 at 12pm and your comments to other participants are due 1/21 at 12pm.

  1. Observation of a Face-to-Face Interaction Discussion Board
Requirements for your post: Create a new thread in this discussion forum and share a recent experience in a face-to-face situation. The experience you share can be a learning situation in a classroom or training setting or any other type situation that involved small group interaction. Once you share your experience reflect on the readings about social presence and analyze what social, psychological, emotional, and physical aspects of the face-to-face situation made you feel "present" in the situation and that the people who you were interacting with were "real people." Please think carefully, we often take for granted the ways in which in a face-to-face situation we feel part of the group, activity, experience, and place.

Requirements for your comments to other participants:  Read posts made by your assigned peers and comment on what they shared. The comments can be about interesting aspects of the shared experience, anything that surprised you about the experience, any new ideas related to social presence that you realized after you read the post.

  2. Blending Synchronous and Asynchronous Online Learning
Requirements for your Post: The literature on Online Learning is dominated with research on asynchronous communication. With advancement in synchronous meeting technologies there is a lot of room for practical and research explorations on how the use of both asynchronous and synchronous modes of communication in online learning can help design and develop socially present learning environment. Based on your Face-to-Face Interactions discuss how both synchronous and asynchronous modes of communication can be used for learners to stay connected with their learning activities and other participants of an online course.

Requirements for your comments to other participants: Read posts by your assigned peers and comment on what they shared. The comments can be about interesting aspects of the shared experience, anything that surprised you about the experience, any new ideas regarding blended online synchronous and asynchronous learning environments.
